One of the busiest days of your life is about to arrive. Are you prepared? We have put together a list of hints that is sure to make your move easier and less stressful. Try to complete all the tasks below prior to move day.
1. Mark Items you don't want loaded:
Mark and set aside items/boxes that you don't want loaded, including paperwork pertaining to the move or any items that you might need on the day of your move.
2. Have the kids pack boxes with their important items:
Have the kids pack a box of their own. Have them put in items like their favorite toys or anything they might like to have with them on their first night. Make sure these boxes are loaded last so they are the first to be unloaded.
3. Make arrangements for the care of your Pets:
Make arrangements to have your pets at a neighbor's or in a kennel the day of your move, this ensures the safety of your pet and is one less thing to worry about the day of your move.
4. Disconnect major appliances:
Major appliances such as dishwashers, washer/dryers, refrigerators, water heating tanks, and any gas appliances should be professionally disconnected prior to the moving day. The movers will wrap and pack them, but we are not able to disconnect them for you. Make arrangements for plumbers or electricians to disconnect those appliances for you.
5. Donate unwanted Items:
Donate your unwanted items to charities or your local church prior to your moving day, for a list of local charities call Brilliant Move.
6. Throw out the trash and any flammable items the night before:
Get rid of as much trash as you can before your move. See if you can borrow your neighbors' trashcans to throw away the debris that builds up on the day of.
For the safety of your belongings and our crew we cannot load any items that are considered flammable. We are happy to offer you a list of these items in advance so that you are not stuck trying to get rid of them on the day of loading
7. Reserve space for the moving truck:
If you live in the city, you know how tricky parking can be. Reserve a space for the moving truck as close as you can to your home by purchasing a parking permit (call us for more information about parking permits in your town).
8. Clear walkways:
Help make the move go faster and smoother by clearing the walkways in and out of your home:

  • Move potted plants and planters from walkways, driveways and porch areas
  • Remove all doormats, floor mats and rugs. Our crew will protect the floors with a specially designed no-slip floor covering.
  • Shovel snow or rake leaves off of the walkways into your home.
